The Tuscaloosa Police Department recently celebrated the retirement of certified crime intelligence analyst Pam Lee (left) and Sgt. Trent Kempster. Lee spent 39 years with TPD, while Kempster put in 25 years of service.

- The labor strike at Warrior Met Coal is set to enter its fifth month in August, with no immediate signs of a compromise at the negotiating table. In its latest public display of opposition to the west Alabama coal producer, United Mine Workers of America will host its "biggest rally yet" on Wednesday in Brookwood. (More on Patch)
- Public hearings have officially been set for redistricting discussions following the conclusion of the 2020 Census, with Tuscaloosa's scheduled for Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. in the Bean-Brown Theater at Shelton State Community College. (More on Patch)
- Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority (PARA) announced this week that it will collaborate with Mind Changers to host Westside Community Weekend. - A Marion Junction man was killed Friday night in a single-vehicle crash in Perry County on County Road 45, approximately a mile south of Marion. (More on Patch)
- The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a new phone scam targeting Tuscaloosa residents, which involves the caller posing as a representative with Alabama Power to solicit payment and claiming that service will be interrupted for failure to pay. (More on Patch)
