Allen, who is currently running for lieutenant governor, reported that 25 undocumented individuals had cast ballots in past Alabama elections but did not specify how far back the illegal voting occurred or in which elections.

In terms of the numbers of "non-citizen registered voters" in the 10-county Tuscaloosa Patch coverage area — (Bibb, Fayette, Lamar, Greene, Hale, Pickens, Perry, Tuscaloosa, Sumter and Walker counties) — Allen's office reported a total of 11 illegally registered noncitizen voters.

The Alabama Secretary of State Office said nine illegally registered voters were identified on voter rolls in Tuscaloosa County, along with two in Walker County.

Allen also provided a county-by-county breakdown of non-citizen registered voters who had cast ballots and none were reported across the Tuscaloosa Patch coverage area.

Alabama's three most-populous counties had the most undocumented voters identified: Jefferson (25), Madison (21) and Mobile (19).

Baldwin and Montgomery counties were reported to have the highest number of non-citizens with voting histories, with a total of three each.

Allen said the names were identified through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

He also said his office used the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database to review the status of individuals on Alabama’s voter rolls.

“I have been clear that our elections should be decided by American citizens and only American citizens,” Allen said. “Through a cooperative effort with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, my office used the federal SAVE database to identify the names of people who are not American citizens but who registered to vote and, in some cases, cast ballots in our elections. I will not tolerate this.”

He then said the findings will be forwarded to local, state and federal law enforcement for further review and any action authorities deem appropriate.
