Northport Approves $350K For Latest Round Of Educational Grants
The Northport City Council on Monday unanimously approved another year of educational grant funding for schools in the city limits.

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport City Council on Monday unanimously approved another year of educational grant funding for schools in the city limits, totaling $350,000.

The funding comes from revenue generated by the city's 1-cent sales tax, with the City Council approving a budget allocation of $7 million for the new fiscal year. The amount is nearly a million dollars more than the amount collected and allocated last year, as Patch previously reported.

This marks the third fiscal year that Northport has set aside sales tax revenue to be used for Tuscaloosa County School System schools in the city.
Education is one of the three dedicated "buckets" for funding for the sales tax revenue, which puts constraints on how the funding can be spent.
