City Administrator Glenda Webb explained that the new policy is built primarily on the employee travel policy and will now require elected officials to submit a request in writing for training and travel where taxpayer dollars will be used to fund the trip.

What's more, Webb said the requests initially be considered by the council's Administration Committee and, if the request is within budget, the request will be approved by the committee.

However, if the travel request exceeds the set budget, it will then be taken up by the full City Council.

Webb said that regardless of if the request is approved in committee or by the full council, the official making the request will be expected to report back to the Council on their travels, given there are no Non-Disclosure Agreements barring them from speaking publicly.

City Council President Jeff Hogg made the initial motion to approve the measure, which was seconded by District 1 Councilwoman and Council Pro Tem Christy Bobo.
