Northport officials have said the comprehensive plan sets a vision for the growth and improvement of the city over a 20-year time period.
This will see city leaders make decisions on zoning and annexation, along with public investments in roads, infrastructure, facilities and other public services.

For instance, during the first community meeting in January, when asked what conditions may have limited or reduced their quality of life, 62% of respondents pointed to traffic, with 38% mentioning the cost of living and 29% citing limited parks and recreation amenities.
Additionally, in terms of issues for the future, the majority of survey respondents — 36% — said public schools were the most pressing issue, followed by 32% saying business development and 31% mentioning public safety.
Following six different community meetings already held this year, the official public hearing is set for Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. at Northport City Hall.
A meeting will then be held in January 2024 to provide a zoning update, which will be followed in March with a meeting discussing subdivision regulations.
