As Patch previously reported, the City Council voted in October 2023 to enter a project development agreement with Diamond Jim's & Mrs Donnas of Northport, LLC, to build its newest steakhouse on a vacant lot on Highway 43 across from Los Tarascos.

The developer cited extenuating circumstances over the last year that have delayed the project and the council is set to consider granting a 12-month extension.

If approved, the restaurant says it expects to open by Oct. 3, 2026.

Patch previously reported in 2023 that the estimated capital investment for the developers would be approximately $1.7 million, with city leaders pointing out that the business would generate significant sales tax revenue, along with providing new jobs.

According to the original project agreement, the city will rebate the developer an amount equal to one-half of the City Sales Tax Revenue collected and received by the city from the net taxable sales generated by the project.

The amount rebated will be capped at $500,000 or if the agreement reaches seven years from its commencement date following the first point of sale, whichever comes first.

The Northport City Council will meet Monday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m.
