Northport Nursing Home Sued For Negligence After Resident Hurt In Fall

NORTHPORT, AL — A Northport nursing home is accused of negligence, wantonness and other charges after a woman was injured in a fall earlier this year.

According to the complaint filed Tuesday in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court, Forest Manor and its staff caused resident Bertha Horton to fall while moving her from a bed to a geriatric chair on Feb. 18.

As a result, attorneys said Horton was seriously injured to the point that she required surgery to repair fractures to her left tibula and right femur, in addition to suffering bruising on her arms and legs, extreme pain, discomfort, decreased mobility, mental anguish and emotional distress.
However, Horton's attorneys then argued that after the fall, the Forest Manor staff negligently failed to transport Horton to DCH Regional Medical Center until 12 hours after she was injured.

Horton's legal counsel demanded a judgement against the facility's owner Northport OPCO, LLC. for compensatory and punitive damages in an amount to be assessed by a jury.
