Northridge High Band Raising Funds To Perform In Washington, D.C.

The band is raising funds for its latest trip, which will see them represent Alabama in the 2023 Independence Day Parade.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Northridge High School marching band is raising funds for its latest trip, which will see the band represent Alabama in the 2023 Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C.

“We have been fortunate to perform at a couple of bowl games, including the Sugar Bowl,” NHS Band Director John Cain said. “This parade opportunity, however, is unique. I am looking forward to my students being able to experience the big concert and fireworks show on the Washington Mall.”

The trip, which will be from July 2-5, is expected to cost roughly $1,000 for each student in the 75-member band.

“I knew this would be a financial burden on many of my students, so we created a fundraising committee who has worked tirelessly to help get us organized in our efforts,” Cain said. “We are trying to raise another $15,000 to ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate."

To date, $55,000 has been raise through donations and deposits paid by students.

As part of the fundraising efforts, the NHS Marching Band will host a fundraiser Saturday, April 1 at Christ Episcopal Church at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $50 and include dinner catered by A Southern Bite, along with live music from the NHS band and local bluegrass group Bounds & Determined.

The band is also selling ads for the program for its spring concert, with spots available to any local businesses. These ads can be purchased by contacting the NHS office.
