Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) says Trevathan is a self-taught singer and guitarist, who performed his original song “Write My Wrongs” and a cover of Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know” for judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie.
The performance was good enough to earn Trevathan three yes votes and a golden ticket to the next round.

“It was surreal,” he said. “They were the sweetest people. They made me feel comfortable before I even started singing.”
Trevathan said he began teaching himself guitar at 10 years old and started writing songs at home soon after. Although he says he has occasionally performed with other musicians, he has primarily played solo, encouraged by his mother to pursue larger stages.
“You don’t always think of yourself in that kind of room,” he said. “But when they called my name … it was an unforgettable moment.”
After graduating from Northridge, Trevathan plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University to remain close to Nashville while continuing to pursue a music career.
“There’s no second option for me,” he said. “This is what I want to do.”
