Reading Allies In Need Of Volunteers
Reading Allies is looking for volunteers to help young readers at several schools in the city of Tuscaloosa and across the county.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Reading Allies is looking for volunteers to help young readers at several schools in the city of Tuscaloosa and across the county.

The program — operating in 12 schools in the Tuscaloosa County School System and Tuscaloosa City Schools — pairs community volunteers one-on-one with readers to bring them up to grade level.

Reading Allies says volunteers are currently need at Central Elementary, MLK Elementary, Oakdale Elementary, Skyland Elementary, The Alberta School of Performing Arts, University Place Elementary, Holt Elementary, Flatwoods Elementary and Cottondale Elementary.
In total, the group says 50 students are still without a volunteer and won’t be able to be served otherwise, with programs already underway and running through the week of April 24.

Sessions — offered Mondays through Thursdays — last approximately 30 minutes and volunteers are asked to commit for the semester, with substitute volunteers available if needed.
Reading Allies first started in 2017 as a collaborative effort between the University of Alabama Honors College, the Tuscaloosa Rotary Club, and the Tuscaloosa City Schools. It has seen expanded to include county schools.
