Republican April Weaver Wins Senate District 14 Special Election
Republican April Weaver has defeated Democratic challenger Virginia Applebaum on Tuesday in a special general election to fill the open seat

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Republican April Weaver has won the special general election to fill the open Alabama Senate District 14 seat, which covers Bibb, Chilton and Shelby counties.
Weaver pulled in 6,231 total votes to defeat Democrat Virginia Applebaum, coming out to just over 80% of the ballots cast in the staunchly conservative district. She will now occupy the senate seat left vacant by Republican Cam Ward of Alabaster, who was appointed director of the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles by Gov. Kay Ivey.

Weaver previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2010 to 2020 — representing Shelby, Bibb and Chilton counties — and was later appointed by President Donald Trump as a regional director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
At one point during her decade in the House of Representatives, she chaired the House Health Committee.

In the March Republican Primary, Weaver won easily with 82% of the vote.
