As Patch previously reported, 24-year-old Corey Lewis, of Eutaw, was arrested two days after the shooting as the first suspect to be charged with first degree assault. The morning of the incident, Tuscaloosa Police officers respond to the shooting call at the lounge and found one victim suffering from a single gunshot wound.

The injured man, who has since called for the City of Tuscaloosa to close the bar, was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment and eventually released.

Powell eventually identified as a second suspect and was located in Tuscaloosa County by the U.S. Marshal's Task Force on Aug. 5

"A substantial amount of illegal narcotics was found with him during his arrest," Kennedy pointed out.

What's more, Kennedy said Powell was also found to be in possession of numerous firearms and was ultimately charged with additional drug and firearm offenses by agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force.

"This is another example of the good working relationships and information sharing that occurs between the task forces in Tuscaloosa county, resulting in the capture of a violent repeat offender," Kennedy said.

Kennedy said Powell's released was revoked on a previous drug charge and has been denied bond in that case. He remains in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on the following charges:

  • Assault 1st ($60,000 bond)
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance ($5000 bond)
  • Unlawful possession of methamphetamine ($5,000 bond)
  • Receiving stolen property, second degree ($15,000 bond)
  • Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance ($15,000 bond)
  • Unlawful possession marijuana, first degree ($15,000 bond)
  • Certain persons prohibited from possessing a firearm ($15,000 bond)
  • Unlawful possession with intent to distribute ($30,000 bond)
