Self-Defense Cited As Possible Motive In Fatal Shooting At Tuscaloosa Apartments

Investigators say self-defense is believed to have played a role in a fatal shooting at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex over the weekend.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says self-defense is believed to have played a role in a shooting at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex over the weekend that left one person dead.

As Patch previously reported, Tuscaloosa Police were called at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 to the 400 block of 8th Avenue NE — River Road Apartments — on the initial call of a shooting. Officers found one male subject at the scene who had died after being shot.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency unit, told local media on Thursday that while the investigation is ongoing, most of the key witnesses and evidence have been located and reviewed.

"Issues of self-defense have been raised in this case, and at this time no arrests have been made," he said. "At the completion of this investigation, the case will be presented to a grand jury for the evaluation of potential charges."

Kennedy then said those with any information into the shooting who has not been contacted by investigators are encouraged to contact the VCU at (205) 464-8690.
