Shelby Announces $4.2M FAA Grant For Tuscaloosa National Airport

The Tuscaloosa National Airport will receive $4.2 million in federal grant money to reconstruct an apron at the facility.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, a Republican from Alabama, announced on Tuesday that Tuscaloosa National Airport will receive $4.2 million in federal grant money to reconstruct an apron at the facility.

Shelby's announced grants for nine Alabama airports, totaling $17.8 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding. For Tuscaloosa's airport, apron work will consist of improvements to the area where aircraft are often parked, boarded and maintained.

The grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and designated for improvements and advances to local airport infrastructure.

“Alabama’s local and regional airports play a significant role in our state’s economy, and I am proud that FAA sees the value in supporting them," Shelby said in a press release on Tuesday. "These improvements will go a long way toward increasing travel to and from Alabama and the overall safety of these airports. This investment stands to benefit several communities in Alabama, and I look forward to witnessing the growth and success of each of them.”
