Team Captains Named For Shelton State Esports

Shelton State Community College's Esports team is returning for its third year of competition, with 21 players set to compete.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Shelton State Community College's Esports team is returning for its third year of competition, with 21 players representing the largest team to date.

The team is set to compete in 11 different game titles in two leagues — the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) and the Collegiate VR Esports (CVRE) league. The titles will be: BeatSaber, CoD Gunfight, CoD Warzone, Hearthstone, iRacing, Madden, Mario Kart, NBA2K, Rocket League, Smash Ultimate, and Valorant.

“Intramurals is a welcome addition for our community,” said Elena Hodgson, the college’s Esports sponsor. “Intramurals will be open to all students, faculty, staff, and families, and we’re looking forward to sharing more information about those opportunities soon.”

SSCC also named the following players as team captains for this year: Griffin Caddis, Carson Gibbs, Sean Lindley and Clay Postle.

SSCC says NJCAAE tournament play for this year is organized into invitational, open, and intramural competitions, with two SSCC teams competing in invitational qualifiers for the invitational tournament.

The qualifiers began over Labor Day weekend and competition for all team members is set to start the the week of Oct. 3.
