Temporary Emergency Services Named UWWA's Agency Of The Year
The agency was honored after stay opening through the coronavirus pandemic and continuing to offer its valuable services to the community.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Temporary Emergency Services (TES) was named United Way of West Alabama’s 2020-21 Homer Butler Jr. Agency of the Year during a virtual announcement on Tuesday.

In receiving the honor, TES became the only agency to receive the distinction twice, previously in 2016-17. United Way of West Alabama said the agency was selected for this honor because of the exceptional service provided during the coronavirus pandemic.

UWWA pointed out that TES remained open throughout the pandemic, serving some of the most vulnerable populations in the Tuscaloosa community. In addition to serving hot meals and meeting other needs, TES also facilitator of United Way’s West Alabama COVID-19 Relief Fund for individuals and families.
“The determination of Executive Director Karen Thompson-Jackson and the staff of TES to rise up to make sure the increasing needs were met and do so in a safe environment was inspiring,” said Jackie Wuska, president & CEO of UWWA. “The work they do day in and day out takes a lot of compassion, a lot of giving and a lot of caring. This year, they never said no as more and more was asked of them and that says so much about their dedication to our community."
