Three Warrior Met Coal Miners Injured By Falling Ice Christmas Night

Three coal miners were hospitalized with injuries after a large piece of ice fell on an elevator compartment at No. 7 Mine Christmas night

BROOKWOOD, AL — Three Warrior Met Coal underground miners were injured Christmas night when a large piece of ice reportedly fell on the compartment holding them in an elevator shaft at No. 7 Mine in Brookwood.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Jessica McDaniel told Patch on Monday that Northstar Paramedic Service first notified the agency that paramedics were en route to the Brookwood mining operation at 6:43 p.m. Sunday night.

McDaniel said one of the employees was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with a head injury, while two others were transported with injuries to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

In terms of specifics, Brookwood Police Chief Jimmy Sellers told Patch that Brookwood Fire responded to No. 7 Mine East and said TCSO was handling the investigation.

The statuses of the three injured miners has not been released at this time and TCSO referred all other comments pertaining to the incident to Warrior Met Coal.

Attempts to contact Warrior Met Coal had not been returned as of the publication of this story.

Along with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the following agencies responded to the scene Sunday night to offer aid: Brookwood Fire, Antioch Fire and the game and fish division of the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources.
