Tuscaloosa Accepting Applications for Home Repair Assistance Program
The city will will begin accepting applications for the federally funded program on July 20.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa says low-to-moderate-income homeowners will soon be able to apply for financial assistance to make critical repairs to their homes through the city's Let's Paint Let's Renovate Program.

The City of Tuscaloosa's Office of Community and Neighborhood Services announced Tuesday it will begin accepting applications for the federally funded program on July 20, with the application window remaining open through July 24.

The initiative, launched in 2022, helps eligible homeowners complete repairs and renovations to permanent, owner-occupied residences.
The Let's Paint Let's Renovate Program is funded through a Community Development Block Grant provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Eligible applicants must own and occupy a home within Tuscaloosa city limits as their primary residence, be current on their mortgage and property taxes, maintain active homeowners insurance and meet income requirements of less than 80% of the area's median income. Rental properties are not eligible.
The city requires homeowners with residences built before 1978 to provide documentation showing the home has previously undergone a lead-based paint inspection or lead abatement.
Applicants must also be enrolled in or have completed a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-certified Comprehensive Housing Counseling Program.

The city says eligible projects must address at least one major home system, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural or accessibility improvements.
All work must comply with applicable federal, state and local regulations.
Completed applications and supporting documentation may be submitted by email, mail or hand delivery to the Office of Community and Neighborhood Services during the July 20-24 application period.
Applications are available by downloading them from the city's Let's Paint Let's Renovate application page, by picking one up in person at the Office of Community and Neighborhood Services at City Hall, by requesting one via email at cnservices@tuscaloosa.com, or by calling (205) 248-5080.
