Tuscaloosa Amphitheater To Be Renamed Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater
The City of Tuscaloosa has announced that the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater will be renamed as part of an agreement with a major business.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa Tuesday evening announced that the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater will be renamed as part of a joint agreement with one of the state's chief economic engines.

As part of an announcement made Tuesday night during the concert by rock bands Loverboy and Foreigner, it was revealed the new name of the venue will be the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater.

This comes after an agreement where MBUSI and the City of Tuscaloosa will serve as joint sponsors of the venue.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed our partnership with the Amphitheater for more than a decade and we are eager to take our collaboration to a new level,” MBUSI President and CEO Michael Goebel said. “We are especially excited to connect our brand to the overall plan for The Saban Center and the City’s Elevate Tuscaloosa Initiative. These projects are transformational, and they offer great promise and opportunity for Tuscaloosa’s future.”

The amphitheater said between now and the next concert season, staff will be taking steps to make the transition to showcase the Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star inside and outside of the venue.

Opened in August 2010, the venue has attracted a long list of sell-out acts, with the city hoping to further connect the riverfront area with its latest improvements.

“The Amphitheater was built to serve as a legacy for our City, while creating economic development opportunities. I’m proud to see what it’s become in the last 12 years,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said. “This extended partnership with Mercedes-Benz is a great next step, and I’m excited to see the continued growth of the amphitheater, riverfront and city center because of great community partners.”
News of the rebranding comes with the redevelopment of the former Tuscaloosa News building to become the Saban Discovery Center, along with the recent renaming of River District Park to Parker-Haun Park.
