Tuscaloosa County DA Hays Webb Announces Re-Election Bid
District Attorney Hays Webb announced on Monday that he intends to seek a second term as the county's chief law enforcement officer.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — District Attorney Hays Webb on Monday announced his intentions to run for a second six-year term as Tuscaloosa County's chief law enforcement officer.
Webb, 54, first won office in 2016 when he unseated incumbent and fellow Republican Lyn Head with 57% of the vote in the GOP Primary. Originally from West Virginia, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1985-1989 and has practiced law in Tuscaloosa since 1997.

"Six years ago we set out on this journey, not for its own sake but because of the good that we believed could be achieved in this position," Webb said in the official announcement. "Motivated by my concern for my family, my home, and my then-private law practice, I promised to do my best; I promised effective, efficient, and ethical leadership that would vindicate victims, respect all within our criminal justice system, and honor our nation’s values and system of laws. Surrounded by exceptional staff and lawyers, and because of their hard work, we have accomplished these things."
In terms of his accomplishments, Webb underscored the efforts made to address a grand jury backlog, with approximately 2,500 cases "languishing for up to four years and believed by many to present an insurmountable hurdle." He then pointed out that this backlog was completely cleared within a year.

"For non-violent offenders and substance abusers, we provide alternatives to jail and prison and work with our business community to provide jobs and job training that will alter and improve their lives," Webb added. "We have been fiscally conservative and completely transparent with our limited resources. For our public’s safety, we have given much and we have demanded much."
While no challengers have come forward as of yet to face Webb in 2022, the qualifying deadline for party primaries is still several months off, set for Jan. 28, 2022.
Party primaries are scheduled for May 24, 2022, with a runoff date of June 21, 2022 if necessary.
The General Election will be on Nov. 8, 2022.
