Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Receives Federal Grant To Fund Training Programs

The department will receive a total of $241,810, with $219,827.27 provided through FEMA and a local match of $21,982.73.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue (TFR) announced Wednesday it has been awarded more than $240,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support advanced training for firefighters.

The department will receive a total of $241,810, with $219,827.27 provided through FEMA and a local match of $21,982.73.

TFR says the funding will be used for multiple specialized training programs, including task force leadership, task force safety operations, medical specialist instruction, planning, logistics, communications, technical search and rescue.

“It is very exciting to be able to receive this grant,” Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Mark Delk said. “Being able to utilize these trainings for our firefighters will be life-changing to our department and to our community.”

The city says TFR applied for the FEMA grant in 2024 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, which is designed to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters by supporting training, equipment and other resources that reduce fire-related risks.
