Tuscaloosa Lawmakers Appointed To Reapportionment Committee
The Speaker of the House has appointed two Tuscaloosa lawmakers to the Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives Nathaniel Ledbetter on Tuesday appointed two Tuscaloosa lawmakers to the Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment.

Among the House members were State Rep. Cythnia Almond, a Republican from Tuscaloosa and State Rep. Chris England, a Democrat from Tuscaloosa.

As the Associated Press reported earlier this month, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of Black voters in the congressional redistricting case from Alabama, which has been opposed by Alabama Republicans and will now be once again considered by the state legislature during an upcoming special session.
This came after judges found that Alabama’s Black population was large enough and geographically sufficient to create a second congressional district — as opposed to the lone congressional district represented by Democrat Rep. Terri Sewell, which covers parts of Tuscaloosa County.
