Tuscaloosa Man Identified After Fatal Apartment Shooting

Investigators have a identified a Tuscaloosa man shot and killed over the weekend in what police believed was an act of self-defense.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit on Friday identified a Tuscaloosa man shot and killed in what investigators believe may have been an instance of self-defense.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, told local media that Joseph Baskins, 36, died at the scene of the shooting the night of Saturday, Sept. 24 at River Road Apartments in the 400 block of 8th Avenue NE.

As Patch previously reported, Kennedy said issues of self-defense have been raised in this case, and no arrests have been made. He then said the case will be presented to a grand jury for the evaluation of potential charges at the conclusion of the investigation.

Kennedy said those with any information into the shooting who have not been contacted by investigators are asked to contact the VCU at (205) 464-8690.
