Tuscaloosa Names Eric Thompson Executive Director Of Construction, Facilities & Grounds

Thompson's first day on the job was Sept. 19, but he has worked for the city for over 15 years, serving most recently as acting director.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox on Wednesday announced the appointment of Eric Thompson as the city's new executive director of Construction, Facilities & Grounds Department.

Thompson's first official day on the job was Sept. 19, but he has worked for the city for over 15 years, serving most recently as acting executive director of the department.

"I appreciate Eric for stepping into the acting director role over the past few months, and have been thoroughly impressed by his leadership of this large department,” Maddox said. “I am confident that he is the right fit and excited to welcome him to the leadership team."

Thompson — a Birmingham native and Auburn graduate — also worked as the business relations officer for the city prior to being named acting executive director for his current department.

Prior to that, he served with the Planning Department as senior planner from 2007 to 2016.
