Tuscaloosa Native Tim Anderson Voted To First MLB All-Star Game

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa native and former Hillcrest High Patriot Tim Anderson has been selected to represent the Chicago White Sox on the American League team during the 2021 MLB All-Star Game in Denver on Tuesday.

Anderson, a 28-year-old shortstop in his sixth season, was a late addition to the American League roster and voted in by players along with Kansas City Royal second baseman Whit Merrifield, after José Altuve and Carlos Correa of the Houston Astros announced they would not participate in the midseason showcase.

A product of Hillcrest High School, where he played basketball and baseball, Anderson got the chance to play college ball at East Central Community College, as the Decatur, Mississippi JUCO was the only school to offer him a baseball scholarship.

Anderson would more than prove himself worthy at the junior college level, being taken in the first round of 2013 MLB Draft. He would make his major league debut in 2016 and quickly won over fans in Chicago with his quick bat and skillful glove work in the field.

During the 2021 campaign, Anderson has hit .314 going into the All-Star Break, with six home runs and 32 RBIs.

The 2021 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 13 at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.
