The mayor said City Hall wanted to provide the Pickleball Association with courts that would last 20 years and be of professional grade.

"At the City of Tuscaloosa, we have a standard of excellence and everything we do must meet that standard,” Maddox said. “The pickleball courts that Price Construction, TTL and the City will deliver will be first class and they will create a wonderful place to be for the pickleball community.”

The project will consist of eight new courts, a new parking lot, lighting and security features and a sidewalk extension to the courts.

“The pickleball community in our city is passionate about pickleball, but they also want to see it grow in our community,” Crow said. “As our council and mayor work together to invest in Tuscaloosa and quality of life, I think that this is another important step for our citizens. I’m excited to see what this will become in this district.”

Officials said the courts will be located near Buddy Powell Pavilion by Northridge High School and construction is expected to be completed around mid-November.

“I’m really excited about the future of pickleball throughout the county,” Davis said. “We’ve got some courts going in at the Miller Center, the YMCA’s got a few downtown, it’s really fun just to see the whole community out."
