Tuscaloosa Officials Hold Ribbon-Cutting For Sokol Park North Improvements
Work on Phase 2 of the Elevate Tuscaloosa-funded project began earlier this year

Tuscaloosa, AL – The City of Tuscaloosa on Tuesday held a ribbon-cutting for the highly anticipated $9.5 million Sokol Park North project as work moves forward on its second phase.

The city says Sokol Park North hosts a variety of athletic, recreational and leisure activities, which attracts a large percentage of the sports tourism market.

“I’m thankful for the leadership of our City Council, the leadership of PARA and the leadership of everyone involved. Not only have we made this great park better, we’ve made it safer,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said
Work on Phase 2 began earlier this year and includes repaving existing parking lots located near both the community gardens and the Field of Dreams, a new traffic circle added to improve traffic flow and storm water drainage improvement.

The project is funded by Elevate Tuscaloosa.
“I think it’s important for the future that we’ve updated this area, and as we continue to do that with Elevate projects, you’re going to see more things across not only the district I represent, but all of the City of Tuscaloosa,” District 3 Councilor Norman Crow said.
