Two Children Injured In Monday Night Shooting On Herman Avenue

An eight-year-old and 10-year-old were injured in a shooting on Herman Avenue Monday night.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says two children were shot Monday night on Herman Avenue during a dispute involving adults.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency unit, told local media on Tuesday that Tuscaloosa Police responded Monday night at approximately 10 p.m. to reports of two children injured by gunfire.

"The children, both boys, were aged 8 and 10," Kennedy said. "The mother reported that she and a friend had been involved in an argument/altercation with several people earlier in the evening. After that altercation, later that night, the mother was confronted by a group of people at a separate location, and the altercation continued."

Kennedy went on to say that during this second altercation, a shot was fired, which entered the mother’s vehicle, striking her two children.

"The mother drove her children to DCH and they were later taken to Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and they are expected to recover," he said.
