Two Deputies Shot, Manhunt Underway In Bibb County

Patch has confirmed that two Bibb County Sheriff's deputies have been shot and a manhunt is underway for the suspect.

BIBB COUNTY, AL — Tuscaloosa Patch has confirmed that two Bibb County Sheriff's deputies were shot during a pursuit Wednesday afternoon and a manhunt is currently underway for the suspect.

Emergency officials close to the situation have told Patch a large-scale manhunt is underway in the area of Alabama Highway 25 in Brierfield.

The male suspect — identified as Austin Patrick Hall —abandoned the stolen vehicle on Golfer's Trail and fled on foot.

Hall, 26, reportedly has an extensive criminal record.

Officials have informed residents of Brierfield, Golfers Trail, County Road 10 and Alabama Highway 25 to be alert for the suspect, who is armed and considered dangerous, and to contact police if he is spotted.

District Attorney Michael Jackson told local media the deputies were transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham and few other details have been released regarding their conditions. At last report, one was listed as stable and the other in critical condition.

Jackson said the shooting occurred around 4 p.m. during a police pursuit when a suspect in a stolen vehicle got out and fired shots at the deputies.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Patch has it has sent patrol units, drones and K9s to aid in the manhunt.

A candlelight vigil for the officers was held at the Bibb County Courthouse square at 8 p.m. Wednesday night as the manhunt continued.
