UA: Darius Miles No Longer Part Of Team After Capital Murder Arrest
UA said Sunday that the junior forward is no longer part of the team and the athletic department is cooperating with the investigation.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The University of Alabama Athletic Department says that junior forward Darius Miles is no longer a member of the team after being charged Sunday with capital murder along with another man from Maryland who is not a UA student.

As Patch previously reported, Michael Lynn Davis, 20, from Charles County, Maryland and Miles, 21, from the Washington, D.C. area were identified as suspects in the shooting death of 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris in the 400 block of Grace Street near The Strip just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

The day prior to the shooting, it was announced that the junior forward would miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury sustained in the Tide's win over LSU Saturday.
"First and foremost, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim from last night’s incident," UA said in a statement. "We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles, and he is no longer a member of the Alabama men’s basketball team. Athletics, in conjunction with the University, is fully cooperating with this investigation."

Miles and Davis were transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail Sunday evening and are being held without bond.
Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media that the shooting appears to have spurred from an altercation among those involved in the shooting.
What's more, one of the suspects suffered a minor injury from a gunshot wound when someone in the opposite vehicle fired back those shooting.
Kennedy also declined to specify which of the two men was responsible for the fatal shot.
