DeBoer said the university has become “a special place” for his family and said he looks forward to keeping Alabama “at the forefront of college football.”
UA Director of Athletics Greg Byrne praised DeBoer in the announcement, calling him “an excellent coach” and thanking university leadership and the board for approving the extension.
“We are pleased to extend Coach DeBoer and are proud to have him leading the Crimson Tide football program,” Byrne said. “He is an excellent coach and has done a commendable job developing our student-athletes.”
DeBoer has compiled a 20-8 record in two seasons at Alabama and owns a 124-20 career mark across 11 years as a collegiate head coach.
The Crimson Tide went 11-4 last season, advancing to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship Game and earning a berth in the College Football Playoff.
Alabama also won one CFP game, defeating eighth-ranked Oklahoma. The Tide recorded five wins last season over ranked opponents, including four in consecutive weeks during the regular season.
In DeBoer’s first season in Tuscaloosa in 2024, Alabama finished 9-4. The university said that total tied for the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history.
The UA System Board of Trustees also agreed to a contract extension and raise for head men’s basketball coach Nate Oats.
The new agreement extends Oats’ contract by two seasons, keeping him in charge of the Crimson Tide program through 2032.
“I am blessed and honored for the opportunity to continue as the head coach of the men’s basketball program at the University of Alabama,” Oats said in a statement. “President Mohler, Chancellor Trant, the entire Board of Trustees and our athletics director Greg Byrne have been tremendously supportive and provided us the resources to compete for championships each and every year.”
Byrne also praised Oats’ leadership and credited university officials for supporting the extension.
The Crimson Tide basketball coach will received a salary of $6.275 million, with increases set throughout the course of the new contract.
“Coach Oats has done an incredible job with our men’s basketball team over the last seven seasons,” Byrne said. “We appreciate his commitment to Alabama and look forward to continued success under his leadership.”
Oats recently completed his seventh season at Alabama, compiling a 170-73 record and a .700 winning percentage.
During his tenure, the Crimson Tide has captured two Southeastern Conference regular-season titles and two SEC Tournament championships, while advancing to five NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances and the program’s first Final Four.
In the 2025-26 season, Alabama went 25-10 overall and 13-5 in SEC play, marking the program’s fourth consecutive 25-win season — a first in school history.
The Crimson Tide finished No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25, extending a streak of four straight seasons finishing in the poll, the program’s longest since 1989-92.
Off the court, Alabama has also posted strong academic results under Oats, including a program-record 3.57 team GPA in the fall of 2024 and a 100 percent graduation success rate among players who exhausted their eligibility.
