University Of Alabama Law School Names Brewbaker As Next Dean

The University of Alabama School of Law on Thursday announced William S. Brewbaker III ​as its next dean, with his tenure set to begin July

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The University of Alabama School of Law on Thursday announced William S. Brewbaker III as its next dean, with his tenure set to begin July 10.

The law school said in a press release that Brewbaker currently serves as the William Alfred Rose Professor of Law with the School of Law and previously served as interim dean during the 2013-2014 academic year.

“I know first-hand the firm foundation on which we will be building, and I’m grateful to our University leadership for the strong support the law school enjoys," Brewbaker said. "We have an accomplished and generous faculty, dedicated and capable staff, loyal and enthusiastic alumni leaders, and the most capable and diverse student body we’ve ever assembled."

Brewbaker said he hopes to continue and improve upon the school's rich tradition of excellence in research, teaching and service to our profession, the state of Alabama and our nation.

"We want to provide an outstanding educational experience for every one of our students while they are in law school and great professional opportunities when they graduate," he said. "I’m looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”

A native of Montgomery, Brewbaker is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia School of Law.

Brewbaker practiced law in Birmingham from 1986 to 1992, before pursuing a Master of Laws in health care law at Duke University.

He has been a full-time faculty member at UA since 1993 and has taught courses in health care law, property law, antitrust and jurisprudence, as well as seminars in bioethics, law and economics, and Christian legal thought.

Brewbaker is also an elected member of the American Law Institute and has served as the School of Law’s associate dean for special programs in the 2011 and 2012 calendar years.
