VOTER GUIDE: What To Know About Primary Day In Tuscaloosa County

Voters across Tuscaloosa County will head to the polls Tuesday for Alabama's 2026 primary elections.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Voters across Tuscaloosa County will head to the polls Tuesday for Alabama’s 2026 primary elections.

Republican voters will choose nominees in several high-profile statewide races, including governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. Senate and attorney general. Democratic voters will also cast ballots in contested races for governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. Senate and other offices.

On the Republican side, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville headlines the race for governor against Ken McFeeters and “Alabama” Will Santiviasci.

The GOP primary for U.S. Senate includes a crowded field featuring Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, Congressman Barry Moore and Jared Hudson.

Republican voters will also decide contested races for lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state auditor, agriculture commissioner and both Public Service Commission seats.

Incumbent Congressman Robert Aderholt faces Tommy Barnes in the Republican primary for Alabama’s 4th Congressional District.

Democratic voters will see a six-candidate race for governor that includes former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones, Yolanda Rochelle Flowers and Will Boyd.

The Democratic U.S. Senate primary features Dakarai Larriett, Kyle Sweetser, Everett Wess and Mark S. Wheeler II.

Tuscaloosa-area Democratic voters in some precincts will also cast ballots in district-level races, including contests for Alabama House District 72 and the State Democratic Executive Committee.

Both parties’ ballots also include two statewide constitutional amendments.

Amendment 1 would expand the list of offenses for which judges may deny bail to include shooting into an occupied dwelling and solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder.

Amendment 2 would prohibit reducing a district attorney’s compensation during their term in office.

Sample ballots provided by the Alabama Secretary of State's office note that some races will appear only in certain precincts based on district boundaries.

Voters must present a valid photo ID at the polls.

Alabama law also requires voters participating in a party primary to support that party’s nominees in the general election.
