According to TCRIC, the estimated project cost is $68,868,054.74.

Once complete, area leaders hope the road extension significantly reduce commute times for those traveling regularly in or out of the area, while at the same time creating additional access for first responders in the case of an emergency.

The city says the extension will connect Rice Mine Road to New Watermelon Road by bridging North River and connecting to McWright’s Ferry Road.

The project will also incorporate a pedestrian bridge over North River and a shared-use path which will connect to the Northern Riverwalk.

A groundbreaking for the project is tentatively scheduled for sometime in June, with the project expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026
