Weekend Car Show To Benefit Murphy African-American Museum

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A car show fundraiser is set for Saturday, July 29, at the McDonald Hughes Community Center, with the proceeds going to benefit the Murphy African-American Museum.

The event will being at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m., with classic cars, trucks and motorcycles of all makes and model.

General admission will be free for the public, while entries and vendors will be asked to provide a $25 donation. Trophies and prizes will be awarded for the categories of classics, sports cars and motorcycles.
What is now the Murphy African-American Museum was first built by Tuscaloosa’s first licensed black mortician Will J. Murphy in the early 1920s as his private residence.

It was built with salvaged bricks and window sills from the old state capitol building in Tuscaloosa and currently operates as a museum commemorating the lives and lifestyles of affluent Black residents in Tuscaloosa during the early 1900s.
