Committee assignments in the Alabama House of Representatives are chosen by the speaker of the House — Nathaniel Ledbetter of Rainsville, who is in entering his first session as speaker.

In the opposite chamber, the Senate Committee on Assignments decides on Senate committee. This governing body consists of the president pro tempore, the presiding officer, the senate majority leader and three other members appointed by the president pro tempore.
