NORTHPORT, AL — Many across Northport have cause for celebration this Monday morning as work kicks off on an ambitious $2.4 million resurfacing initiative across all five City Council districts.

The list of projects is the largest of its kind in the city's history, as the City Council approved and announced the full list in mid-July, Patch previously reported. In August, the Council unanimously approved awarding the bid for the project to Tuscaloosa-based ST Bunn Construction.

Funding for the effort was allocated through the city's Northport First Funds, which is made possible with revenue generated by the city's recently-implemented 1-cent sales tax. The Council initially approved setting aside $2.5 million in December for the projects before ST Bunn entered the low bid of $2,421,113.09 that ultimately secured the contract.

As Patch previously reported, the contract has 120 calendar days to be completed once work begins and while the initiative is set to kick off today, work will commence on projects first based on need and proximity to one another.
