In a statement released by the University of Alabama television station, WVUA said it will instead focus its coverage on weekday broadcasts and reporting efforts Monday through Friday.

“As primarily a student-staffed newsroom, our numbers are understandably low during the summer as most of our reporters are home or away from Tuscaloosa for the summer,” the station said in the announcement.

WVUA 23 said viewers can continue to expect live newscasts at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays, with continued emphasis on local news coverage.

The station also noted that Chief Meteorologist Richard Scott will continue providing weather forecasts and updates throughout the weekend through the station’s website and his social media platforms.

WVUA 23 emphasized that severe weather coverage will remain uninterrupted despite the temporary suspension of weekend broadcasts.

“In the event of any severe weather, regardless of season, day, or time, he and other staff will get to the station to go on air to bring you the information you need to stay safe and aware,” the statement said.
