• 12 ways to honor the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in the Birmingham area (bhamnow.com) — Vestavia Hills is partnering with Homewood and Mountain Brook for a free Patriot Day ceremony on September 11, featuring colors, remarks and patriotic music at SoHo Plaza in Homewood. Residents can also choose from stair climbs, memorial runs, concerts, rides and service projects across the Birmingham area to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. 
• ALDOT opens widened U.S. 280 from Shades Creek Parkway to I-459 (hooversun.com) — Drivers in Vestavia Hills now have a newly widened stretch of U.S. 280 between Shades Creek Parkway and I-459, adding a fourth lane in each direction to ease congestion. ALDOT says most remaining upgrades, including a new Pump House Road bridge and additional resurfacing, should wrap up by early October, with officials specifically thanking Vestavia Hills for its support during construction.
• USA TODAY Sports Top IX flag football players of Week 3 (usatoday.com) — Vestavia Hills flag football standout Alana Anderegg has been named one of USA TODAY Sports' Top IX players of Week 3 after throwing for 245 yards and five touchdowns in a 38–0 win over Westminster Christian. The national list spotlights her as a freshman playmaker alongside top athletes from California, Illinois and other Alabama schools.
