School Board Recognizes September Accomplishments
National Merit semifinalists and a Vestavia leadership group were recognized at this week's board meeting.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — The Vestavia Hills Board of Education recognized some of the school systems accomplishments during the month of September at this week's meeting.
The board recognized Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights, who was honored earlier this month by Gov. Kay Ivey as an Alabama Bicentennial School of Excellence. VHECH was one of three schools in Alabama’s Sixth Congressional District to receive the award. The school received a $5,000 grant to support its commitment to student-led community engagement. VHECH and 20 other schools were chosen from among 200 Alabama Bicentennial Schools named in August 2018. The Cahaba Heights Bicentennial Project was led by Celia Stewart, Sarah Coe, and Katie Hicks.
As well, the board recognized the 15 VHHS seniors who were named semi-finalists for the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Mallory Barry, Laura Reed Cunningham, Kyuna Kim, Robert Laughlin, Jack Lin, Eileen Liu, Isabella Lloyd, Shane Mackey, Caroline Magee, Jacob Moore, Andrew Precise, Ben Reynolds, Robby Turner, David Wang and Amanda Wilson will now compete to be National Merit Finalists, which will be announced in the spring.
