π± Anchorage's Record-High Home Prices + Alaska Zoo Hiring
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Anchorage.
Good morning, people of Anchorage! It's me again, Dominique-Noelle Rafael, your host of the Anchorage Daily.
First, today's weather:
A little afternoon snow. High: 36 Low: 24.
Here are the top three stories in Anchorage today:
- As in many cities across the United States, Anchorage saw record home sales amid a tight market, with homebuyers embroiled in ongoing bidding wars. According to the Anchorage Economic Development Corp., the average price of a single-family home in Anchorage rose to $421,000 last year — up from 2020's previous record of $394,000. Realtors say a key factor in the price jump is limited housing inventory due to slowed rates of residential construction. (Yahoo Money)
- After voting to move ahead with the city's reapportionment map, the Anchorage Assembly has until Mar. 7 to propose amendments to it. Any amendments will be posted on the Reapportionment Committee's website by Mar. 14, ahead of a public hearing scheduled for Mar. 15. A final vote for the map will be held during a special meeting on Mar. 23. (Must Read Alaska)
- Looking for a dynamic, wild place to work this summer? The Alaska Zoo is hiring for summer jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities. Paid roles include zookeepers, seasonal camp leaders and assistants, and guest services representatives. Visit the Zoo's website for more information. (Facebook)
