Two Anchorage men sentenced to decades in prison for roles in drug trafficking conspiracy case (alaska-native-news.com) — Two Anchorage men have been sentenced to 25 and 27 years in prison for leading a fentanyl-focused drug trafficking ring that moved large quantities of narcotics through Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Investigators tied the conspiracy to at least 20 kilograms of fentanyl and other drugs distributed in Alaska. Anchorage police, troopers and the FBI's local office helped dismantle the operation. 
2. Anchorage data shows Girdwood, South Addition with large number of short-term rentals (alaskapublic.org) — Anchorage has now registered more than 2,500 short-term rentals, with especially heavy concentrations in Girdwood and the South Addition neighborhood. After the Assembly required registration, city officials are using the data to shape future rules, enforce an October 1 deadline, and potentially fine unregistered owners up to $1,000 while keeping registration free on the city website.
3. Anchorage police upgrades on Assembly agenda once more (alaskasnewssource.com) — Anchorage Assembly members are again weighing whether to fund upgrades to the Police Department's Real Time Crime Center, a decision that could affect how crime is monitored citywide. They're also taking public comment on a proposed surveillance and privacy ordinance, giving residents a chance to weigh in on how new technology may be used in Anchorage.
4. 'Nightmare come to life': Pro runner attacked by grizzly in Alaska (denvergazette.com) — A professional runner was mauled by a grizzly bear on August 13 while training on the Wolverine Bowl Trail near Anchorage's Prospect Heights trailhead, but she escaped more serious injury by quickly using bear spray. Alaska wildlife officials say her response shows how vital accessible, ready-to-use bear spray is for anyone recreating on Anchorage-area trails and other bear country.
5. Cross-country running star's impact on Anchorage's East High goes far beyond the trails (adn.com) — At Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School, standout cross-country runner Katahdin Staples is just as committed to classmates as to winning races. He helped revive Partners Club and unified PE, connecting students with and without disabilities, organizing inclusive activities like skiing and Polar Plunge events, and modeling how Anchorage teens can build a more welcoming school community.
