1. Gilbert breaks from pack on East Valley Institute of Technology busing (eastvalleytribune.com) — If your teen attends EVIT in Mesa, transportation is changing fast. Seven East Valley districts are now relying on a private bus vendor after a funding and control dispute, while Gilbert and Cave Creek chose to keep running their own buses to Mesa campuses. Officials say service is improving but some routes recently saw confusion and delays. 
2. Mesa's Falcon Field Fee Fight Continues (avbrief.com subscription) — Mesa's fight over new landing fees at Falcon Field continues, with national aviation groups backing multiple complaints that challenge the city's fee calculations and impact on flight schools. City Council has delayed the program for 90 days and ordered an independent audit, while operators warn the structure could drive training businesses away from the Mesa airport.
3. LIVE UPDATES: Severe monsoon storms moving into the Valley (abc15.com) — Driving around Mesa tonight could be dangerous as severe monsoon storms bring strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, and a dust storm warning along I-10, I-17, and US-60 near Phoenix–Mesa. The National Weather Service has a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in place until 11 p.m., and residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid driving in blowing dust when possible.
4. Canyon Lake northeast of Mesa to close for four months (eastvalleytribune.com) — If Canyon Lake is your go-to escape from Mesa, plan ahead: the lake will close Sept. 8 for about four months while SRP and federal crews lower water levels 54 feet for dam inspections and maintenance. All ramps and access points will be shut, though officials say the released water will still serve Valley customers and help keep the reservoir system safe.

Mesa couple's garden exchange stands help community grow through Arizona heat (abc15.com) — A Mesa couple's Garden Exchange Stands are giving residents free seeds, plants, and locally tested gardening advice to help yards survive Arizona's brutal heat. Based in Mesa and supported by Mesa Community College expertise, the nonprofit shows what really grows here, from balcony containers to backyard citrus, while teaching practical strategies like shade, mulch, and careful watering for summer survival.
