2. October in Phoenix is off to a hot start, but it won't last long (fresnobee.com) — Phoenix is starting October with another stretch of near-100-degree heat, with triple-digit highs expected Tuesday through Thursday before a possible cooldown and slight rain chances this weekend. Forecasters say winds will ease, overnight lows will stay unusually warm, and temperatures should finally drop below 100 as high pressure weakens over the Valley.
3. Pedestrian killed in Phoenix after driver has apparent medical emergency (ktar.com) — A 47-year-old man died after being hit by a car Sunday evening near 23rd Avenue and Williams Drive in Phoenix, when the northbound driver apparently suffered a medical emergency and veered onto the sidewalk. Both the pedestrian and driver were taken to the hospital, and police say impairment is not suspected as Vehicular Crimes detectives continue investigating.
4. Linda (Luken) Lee, 75, formerly of Brunsville (nwestiowa.com) — Phoenix readers are informed of the passing of Linda (Luken) Lee, 75, a Phoenix resident remembered for her adventurous spirit, love of sports, and deep devotion to family and faith. Surrounded by loved ones at home, she leaves behind her husband Steve, daughter Angela of Phoenix, and extended family and friends across several states.
5. NAMI Walks Valley of the Sun returns October 10 to raise mental health awareness across Arizona (abc15.com) — Phoenix will host the 22nd annual NAMIWalks Valley of the Sun on Saturday, October 10, bringing together thousands to raise mental health awareness and funds for services across Arizona. Residents can walk, volunteer, or donate, with proceeds supporting education, advocacy, and free support programs that help individuals and families statewide, including those in Phoenix.
