1) Phoenix veteran injured in Iraq was wheelchair-bound for nearly a decade, but can now walk again thanks to robotic exoskeleton.

US Army veteran Richard “Richie” Nieder served his country in Iraq in 2013 and suffered a major spinal cord injury. But with a new ReWalk Robotics exoskeleton, he is now able to stand and walk on his own.

2) Self-driving company, Cruise, by General Motors, will be expanding into Phoenix.

The robotaxi service will compete with Waymo, another autonomous service, already here in Phoenix.

3) Beloved pizza eatery becomes official pizza partner for Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury.

Spinato’s is officially partnering with the two sports franchises. “We will be rolling out our fresh dough before every single event. We promised ourselves that we would not commit to this partnership unless we could meet the teams at half court,” said Ken Spinato, owner of Spinato’s.

4) Day of Service honored Sept. 11 victims by feeding those in need – packing more than 10,000 meals for St. Mary’s Food Bank and the United Food Back.

Over 12,000 volunteers took part in the Day of Service in remembrance of September 11.

5) Popular hiking trail at Camelback Mountain is finally set to reopen on Sept 30.

The Cholla Trail, known by locals and tourists alike, was closed in 2020 due to a major accident with a hiker and a 300-lb boulder. The City of Phoenix has worked on clearing dangerous boulders and added amenities, including a drinking fountain, restrooms and bike racks.
