Phoenix Public Library Invites Community to Help Name a New Library (phoenix.gov) — Phoenix residents can help name the new Phoenix Public Library branch at Estrella Civic Space by completing an online survey through October 2. The winning desert plant–inspired name will guide the library's design and must be approved by the Library Advisory Board, Heritage Commission, and Phoenix Mayor and City Council, with more chances for public input coming this fall.

2. How can APS, SRP customers get bill assistance? (ktar.com) — Phoenix-area APS and SRP customers struggling with summer power bills can now apply for hundreds of dollars in annual assistance through the state's Power AZ program and related relief funds. Depending on income and hardship, households may qualify for up to $640 from Power AZ plus additional APS or SRP aid, but funding could run out as soon as September.

3. 50-Home veterans village under construction in Glendale, and homeless veterans are waiting (abc15.com) — A 50-home Veterans Community Project village is under construction in Glendale to provide transitional housing and support services for homeless veterans across the Phoenix metro area. Leaders expect to open in summer 2027, using on-site case managers and wraparound services to help residents address root causes of homelessness and move into permanent housing, with ongoing community support still needed.

4. Police: $15 nail repair dispute ends with gunfire at Phoenix salon (azfamily.com) — Police say a dispute over a $15 nail repair at a Phoenix salon near 16th Street and Bethany Home Road escalated when a woman allegedly punched an employee and fired a shot that shattered the front door. No injuries were reported, and the suspect was later arrested near I-17 and Northern Avenue and jailed on multiple assault and firearm charges.

5. Can I bring my dog to the Phoenix Zoo? (ktar.com) — Dog lovers in Phoenix will get one special day to bring their pups to the Phoenix Zoo for the "Tails on the Trails" event on November 14. Standard admission applies to people, each dog costs extra, and strict rules cover age, vaccinations, leashes, and which exhibits dogs can enter to keep all animals safe.
