• UMOM program sees surging demand for 24/7 summer heat shelter (ktar.com) — Families experiencing homelessness in Phoenix are turning to UMOM's new 24/7 Summer Family Heat Relief shelter in far greater numbers than expected, with 222 households already served. Backed by expanded City of Phoenix funding, the program offers round‑the‑clock shelter, meals, and support during dangerous overnight heat, and UMOM expects to help more than 300 families before the season ends.
   

• 15-year-old girl killed by car in north Phoenix crash honored at vigil (fox10phoenix.com) — North Phoenix neighbors are mourning 15-year-old Phoebe Melton, who died after being hit by a car near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road on Aug. 25. About 50 family members and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil near Thunderbird High School, sharing memories while Phoenix police continue investigating the crash, noting the driver stayed at the scene and impairment isn't suspected.
