Hikers Rescued In 2 Separate Incidents On Phoenix’s Camelback Mountain

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix firefighters worked two nighttime rescues on Camelback Mountain Sunday, officials said.

Crews were first called to the mountain around 8:30 p.m. for a rescue on the Cholla side, where a hiker became disoriented near the summit.

With help from the Phoenix police helicopter, firefighters located the man and walked him safely off the mountain.

While crews were there, a second call came in from the Echo Canyon side, where two hikers reported minor injuries.

Those hikers made their way down the mountain to a nearby house on their own and were checked by crews, fire officials said.

No serious injuries were reported after either rescue.

The busy day served as another reminder that Camelback Mountain, one of the Valley’s most popular hikes, can become dangerous quickly, even for experienced hikers.
