Padres Pitcher Jose Torres Charged With Domestic Violence

The third-year relief potcher, who has been placed on the restricted list, was charged in connection with a December incident.

PHOENIX, AZ – San Diego Padres relief pitcher Jose Torres faces charges of domestic violence stemming from a December incident at his home in Phoenix. Police say that he pulled a gun on his wife, punched a hole in a door and knocked another off its hinges.

On Tuesday, the Padres placed him on the restricted list and announced that he will not be reporting to Spring Training.

"We take this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with the investigation being conducted by the Commissioner's Office," the team said in a statement.

The incident happened on December 23 at Torres's home by Indian School Road and 112th Avenue.

Police say that he was arguing with his wife, pulled a 9mm gun on her and then damaged the two doors.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified of his arrest since he's a Venezuelan in the United States on a work visa.

Torres made his debut with the team last year, striking out 63 in 68 1/3 innings and posting a 4.21 ERA.
