Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- The Phoenix City Council has awarded grants to food-tech innovators. Seven recipients were approved for the Agri-Food Tech Innovation Grant to help them adopt agri-food technologies and innovations into their operations. The year's total available grant funding is $400,000, with awards ranging from $1,000 to $99,000. (Daily Independent)
- A new music festival is coming to Phoenix this September. The new Hearts on Fire festival, headlined by The All-American Rejects, is an all-ages event co-presented by local promoters Relentless Beats and Pskyo Steve Presents. The festival will take place on Sept. 23 at Phoenix Raceway, 7602 Jimmie Johnson Drive, Avondale. (Phoenix New Times)
- Phoenix officers were involved in a shooting near 107th Avenue and Camelback Road on Thursday night. Officers were dispatched at around 11:15 p.m. for a suspicious person and made contact with a man with a gun. The man fired several shots at the police, leading them to fire their weapons. - The Phoenix Police Department is sadly sharing that another retired K9 has passed away. "Ronin" was born in 2008 and came to the Phoenix Police Department in 2010. He served the community with his handler for eight years before retiring in 2018. (Phoenix Police Department via Facebook)
